Description
The Barrage is what you reach for when you want the blade out now and you are not gentle with your gear. Push the thumb stud a fraction of an inch and the AXIS Assist spring takes over, snapping a 3.6 inch blade to full lock. Closing is the normal AXIS routine, pull the bar and fold it shut, from either hand.
It is a big, honest tool rather than a slim gentleman's folder. At 4.31 ounces and 0.65 inch through the handle, it is the heaviest knife in this part of the Benchmade line, and the Valox scales shrug off drops, solvents and jobsite abuse that would mark up aluminum. The 154CM blade is not the fanciest steel Benchmade offers, and that is deliberate: it takes an edge quickly and comes back easily on a basic stone.

Common Questions
Is this an automatic knife?
No. It is spring assisted, which is a different mechanism. You have to physically start the blade moving with the thumb stud before the spring takes over, and there is no button. Assisted openers are treated differently from automatics in most places, but knife laws vary by state and city, so check your local rules before carrying.
What does the safety do?
It locks the blade closed so the assist cannot fire accidentally in a pocket or bag. Slide it off before opening. You can leave it disengaged for faster access if you prefer.
How does 154CM compare to S30V?
S30V holds an edge longer. 154CM is tougher against chipping and noticeably easier to resharpen with basic equipment, which suits a knife that gets used hard and touched up often.
