Stonewashed CPM-S30V58-60 HRC. The stonewash finish hides the scratches that field dressing inevitably puts on a blade.

The Crooked River is the largest folder Benchmade builds for the hunt category, and it does not apologise for it. At 9.3 inches open and 5.41 ounces it is a serious tool rather than a pocket companion. The payoff is a 4 inch clip point that keeps cutting long after a three inch blade has stopped being useful, and a handle big enough to control properly with cold or wet hands.
The stabilized wood is the reason people buy this one twice. Resin-infused hardwood gives you the warmth and figure of a traditional handle with none of the maintenance, and paired with the gray aluminum bolsters it looks like a custom rather than a production knife. Underneath, it is still a modern folder: AXIS lock, reversible split-arrow clip, deep-carry position.

Is this too big to carry every day?
For most people, yes. At 5.33 inches closed and 5.41 ounces it carries like a tool, not a pocket knife. It is at its best on a belt or in a pack for hunting and camp use. If you want the same look and feel in a size you can pocket daily, take the Mini Crooked River.
How do I care for the wood?
Very little is needed. Stabilized wood is resin-impregnated all the way through, so it does not need oiling and will not absorb blood or water. Wipe it clean and dry it like any other handle material.
