Model 15017 / Hidden Canyon Hunter

A small fixed blade that punches far above its size. 2.79 inches of stonewashed CPM-S30V at 58-60 HRC on a stabilized wood handle, with a leather sheath, at just 2.81 ounces.

Key Features
2.81 OuncesLighter than most folders, with none of the moving parts. For anyone counting grams on a backcountry hunt, this is the fixed blade that comes along.
Deep ChoilA pronounced finger choil lets you choke right up on the blade for close, controlled cuts, which is how a short skinner is actually used.
CPM-S30V58-60 HRC. Holds an edge well, resists corrosion, and unlike S90V it is realistic to sharpen yourself in camp.
Stabilized WoodDark brown resin-impregnated hardwood. Warm and grippy in hand, and waterproof through the whole block so it needs no oiling.
Leather SheathA traditional leather sheath with a belt loop and snap retention strap, weighing 2.01 oz.
Built in Oregon CityMade in the USA and covered by Benchmade LifeSharp, free factory resharpening for the life of the knife.
Description

Most people reach for a bigger knife than they need on a hunt. The Hidden Canyon Hunter is the argument against that. At 2.79 inches of blade and under three ounces, it does the majority of field work as well as a knife twice the size, and it disappears on a belt or in a pack until you want it.

The deep choil is the design detail that makes it work. Choking up puts your index finger directly behind the edge, which gives the control that fine work around joints and hide actually requires. S30V is the sensible steel choice here: strong edge retention, good corrosion resistance, and still something you can bring back on a pocket stone in the field.

Common Questions
Is 2.79 inches enough blade for field dressing?

For deer-sized game, yes, and many people prefer it. A short blade with a deep choil gives more control around joints and hide than a long one. For larger animals or heavy skinning, step up to the Saddle Mountain Skinner.

How do I care for the leather sheath?

Keep it dry and do not store the knife in it wet, since leather holds moisture against steel. A leather conditioner once a season keeps it supple.

What is LifeSharp?

Benchmade will clean, oil, adjust and resharpen your knife to a factory edge for free, for as long as you own it. You cover shipping to them.
